-You may purchase another 'prepaid account' and swap the phones between the old(#) and new number(ESN CHANGE). This will probably cost $20-$70 for the phone (try a costco in box prepaid phone) You will not lose your old number by doing this swap. just open the second account and call it in or goto a store, a rep will do it, easy.
-Your prepaid account is elegible for a new phone every so often ask or call. (reps will be hesitant to help in this way because it is non-commision)
-Use an old verizon phone from home, anything non-smartphone should do. (ex. NOT: iphone, blackberry, android)
-Check amazon, phones go very cheap there. $5+.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LOSE YOUR NUMBER. INDIRECT DEALERS MAY SAY YOU DO BUT YOU DONT(BEST BUY, COSTCO).
You can always activate an old handset on your prepaid account, certain handsets won't be compatible but most will. You can always go to the store and see if you're eligible for an upgrade. The only way you wouldn't be able to keep the same number is if there hasn't been a balance on the account for a few months and the account had been disconnected. Is there anything else I can help you with?
All you need is a replacement cellphone. As long as you get one within 3 months you will be allowed to keep your number. If the number is inactive for 3 months verizon will take back the number. Most old phones will work, you can get brand new prepaids from wallgreens for around 39.99 (includes $10 worth of minutes). Or just buy a used phone for ebay for $10.
~remember you have 3 months so make sure u get something!
