What is the policy for refund for an airline ticket in the case of death of the passenger?
I'll try to make it easy.
Simply request the refund by email to email@example.com and scan in the death certificate and attach to the email request. I can't say how long it will take due to the merger and the many issues involved, but you will get a refund and once it is processed you should see a credit to the original form of payment( this will be to the card and if account is closed the bank will mail a check to the cardholder's address) in 7 to 10 business days. So the refund received is based on the processing date. Sorry for your loss.

Family members on the same reservation are entitled to a refund at the same time. You can also go online to United.com to make the request. Click REFUNDS. I am so sorry for your loss.

I just wanted to add something to the other answers here.
There will be a full refund if it is the passenger who has passed away.
For other family members there will be a $50 processing fee per passenger that will be applied.
