Hello, I am requesting Southwest airlines extend the expiration date of travel funds acquired...

Hello, I am requesting Southwest airlines extend the expiration date of travel funds acquired from a trip canceled 7/30/2011 (expiring 7/29/12). The orignal period for travel was 8/26-11-9/4/11. I am trying to use the travel funds for 8/17/12-9/1/12, which is within 365 days of the original travel. But, Southwest ties the expiration to when travel is canceled/changed. Had I known, I would have waited until 24 hours prior to the initial start date of travel. But, I canceled once I knew plans could not be completed to give them time to re-book someone else.

Are you able to help with this? Thank you for your consideration.

When you cancel a reservation and you are given travel funds, The travel funds expire 1 year from the original date of purchase not travel dates. In order to request or see if it can be extended you will need to contact our customer relations department at 214-932-0333. They are open monday thru friday from 7am to 8pm central standard time.

They are the only ones that are able to extend the travel funds expiration date, however it is done on a case by case basis and there is no guarantee that they will extend it. If they do extend it, there is a charge that will be deducted from your travel funds. Unless it has changed recently the fee is $75.00 and it extends it for an additional 6 months.

I am sorry you are having to deal with this unfortunate situation. When speaking with customer relations please be courtieous. I know you are upset but trust me it goes a long way with them.

    I hope this information helps
