Simply get a pair of RCA jacks (red, white & yellow). Just don't use the yellow. Let me know if this is helpful, If not let me know what u have & I will help more.

There are a couple of ways to do it..
1- Use audio cable.. Red and White Rca cables and connect them from surround sound reciever to the Cable Box then turn the Surround sound reciever to the corresponding input that you have plugged into and it should have sound.

2- Use optical audio cable instead of RCA cables.

what do you mean turn the surround sound receiver to the corresponding input?
    • Dish Network • 46 answers • 90% helpful

When you connect the RCA jacks to the reciever then the spot on the back of the reciever will say something like TV or DVD or AV1 or Input 1.. You will have to select that input or source on the reciever.

the easiest way to hook up the surround sound is to run an optical cable from your tv to the input of your surround sound receiver. now whatever input you use on the surround rec, set the receiver to that so you have audio from whatever you are watching on the tv on the surround sound without having to switch it every time you want to use a different component, i.e. dvd, dish, playstation, etc. if you don't have optical input or output or either, you can use rca from the tv to the surround sound rec.

if you have a non-hd rcvr, use the red/white from rcvr output to surround sound input
if its a hd rcvr, use a digital optical cable

if your tv has an audio out, the easiest way is to use RCA from tv to surround sound. that will funnel all sound from the tv
