my direct tv receiver no longer connects to my wireless router, we had to get a new router, it sees it, but will not communicate with it when I put in the password. Why?

Hey Chris, not sure what you mean by password. Obviously, you get a new wps with a new router, but you NEVER enter that password with DirecTV. You either connect directly or with the Cinema Connection Kit. Where exactly are you entering the password? Do you have Whole home set up? Should be an easy fix!

I'm talking about the security key for my wireless router. I tried changing the key. It works to my laptop. The wireless router will not communicate with direct tv. The set up: Coax to splitter, one side goes to DECA then to receiver, along with an ethernet. The other side of the splitter goes to Cinema Connection Kit. The system has been working for a few months till we had to replace our router.

Okay, you say a 'few' months. Usually the route with a new router is call your ISP which I'm trying to avoid. Whenever you hook up your DirecTV receiver to the internet it's done automatically (via wireless (wireless cck), powerline (AC boxes), or (the third is really never used). Try hooking up through all options. I use a powerline for mine, and sometimes have to redo it. You should NEVER need to enter a password. Worst case is go through advanced setup and write down all fields needed (ip address is one, mac is another) and get them from your provider. Then you're good to go. Sorry it's so complicated, but welcome to the electronic age....UGH!!!

Fixed it. I had to manually install the right IP address, Gatway, and DNS. It then connected. I went into the "Advance Setup". Thanks for the assistence.

Try restoring network defaults, then try again. Let me know if that works

No luck, I tried restoring the defaults. Could it be any of the settings in the wireless router? WPA2, AES, etc.?

Yes sometimes, does your new router have a wps button? If so, press and hold it until it starts blinking then do the same on the wireless deca unit for your Directv. It's on the back

I'm sure you kjpw this but the password is case sensitive. You can loop through the numbers/letters on the remote by typing like its a cell phone

No luck, I tried changing the password. It works to my laptop. It just will not communicate with direct tv.

Is the LAN light off? Try unplugging it for a bit then try it, there is also a reset button on the Directv deca, try that as well. Sorry, usually it connects no problem. If that doesn't work, you might need to refer to the user manual. If you don't have it, look on Directv .com

I already have tried that with each. I'll try again. I look up the manual.
