I am getting a "searching for satellite signal 771 error intermittently.

I am getting a "searching for satellite signal 771 error intermittently. I never got both of my odd and even frequency channels. If I am ever getting the evens, I can't get the odds. When I get the 771 error code, I can swap to the other frequency's channels, and get them. Have you ever heard of this? I am clueless on how to fix it.

That sounds like a bad LNB. First check your connections and make sure you do not have any trees or other foliage that could be causing the problems. If all that is ok then your LNB is probably bad. Call 1800-531-5000 and at the prompt ask for tech support. They can send a tech out to replace it.

I don't know if this makes any difference or not, but this is not the only cable box running in the house. There is one other one in another room that doesn't have any problems at all.

Ok if the other box is not having the problem then it is the box. You will still need to call and they will send you a replacement box. If it is a DVR make sure to watch all the shows as it will be gone when you replace it.

That does help! One more quick question. We do have a spare box. Would taking the card out of the defective box and using the other box work? Or is the card married to the box it is in?

You have a splitter in the line or a bad switch. Most likely a splitter

Cards are married to the box. :(

Like a cable splitter with one line in and 2 out. DirecTV switches are different.

See there was a splitter in the line as of earlier this morning, but I figured that might be the problem, so I got rid of the splitter and replaced it with on of the just female to female extenders from best buy. Still have the same problem.

Can you trace the line all the way back to the DirecTV switch? Sounds like a splitter still. If not, try a different port on your switch for that line. Its not the lnb if the other receiver works.

      Ben

I can trace it, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'll post on here and let ya know what I find! Thanks for the advice guys!

Hello Ben. It sounds like either Your dish is loose or out of allignment. Possibly a bad LNB on the Dish itself or a malfunction in your receiver. Only thing You can really do is call customer service for a service call so a technician can come out and troubleshoot your problem. Call customer service at (800-551-5000) to schedule a service call. Press 0, 5 to 6 times to reach a live person to help You. One thing You can try before that is to do a hard reset on your receiver by un plugging your power cord for 30 seconds then plug it back in and see if that will fix it. I hope this helps. And if you have any more questions, Don't hesitate to ask.
