I would recommend a optic cable .but use the red and white from tv output or output on your directv box and hook it to the input on your surround sound. Note the input on your surround sound to set to the proper input.0 comments

Use the audio out from your tv itself. It will be red and white audio cables and will read "monitor out" on the back of your tv.

Hook up the vga cables in the back of the tv. Once you do that and hook them to your surround sound then you should have no problem, The VGA is the yellow, red, and white cords. If you have a receiver for your surround sound this should be easier to do
