Only plugs that go into DirecTV receiver are to TV. All devices are hooked up directly to the TV itself. Change inputs on TV to change between devices.

Well, this gets into legal issues as it's designed not to be done. You cannot record 'directly' from DVR to DVD recorder or VCR. The only way to can do it is by setting up VCR/DVD to TV input channel and when program starts, hit record. It's a pain, but the idea is to stop piracy crap. Hope that help answers the question.

I can't play vsh tapes no matter what . I used to be able to before we got direct tv. Maybe we need to cancel and go back to comcast ?

Hopefully this video helps: http://youtu.be/T_CbXl0ALVc I have issues with setup too. I have a brand new HDTV but can't have VCR and DVD player hooked up. Problem is there's not enough inputs on TV's.

I hear you dude, that's why I'm helping you (or trying). When you have your VCR hooked up and playing a tape, that's when you either change TV channel or input on television. Directv never messes with that. It's a completely different system. To put VHS on to DVD, there should be instructions included with the DVD recorder. If it helps, just unplug the DirecTV cords from your TV when watching tapes. I wish I could be there to show you. Doing my best Danny!!

you don't hook up to directv receiver - you hook it up directly to the tv and change imput selection to use different devices

Just plug it into your tv. It won't work through Directv receiver

If you want to record your Directv then you have to go through you dvd recorder. There should be an input on the recorder, plug your Directv receiver into the input and plug the output on you dvd player to you tv
