My tv is plasma, it has HDMI hook ups but I don't have HDMI cords (i dont think). Right now my DTV box is goes out with the green/blue/red out to the tv green/blue/red in. It also is DTV box red/white (audio out) to TV red/white (audio in). I want to hook up a receiver/tuner/dvd player with surround speakers to all of this. How do I do this? The receiver is not as up to date as the tv and dtv box are but I did see the receiver has the green/blue/red out hook ups and the red/white as well.

K, ur green, blue & red wires from ur receiver r HD wires. There just a step below HDMI wires. Use the red & white rca jacks for ur surround sound. 1st put the red & white wires to the input out on ur tv. Then attach the other side to ur surround sound. Just using the red & white. The red & white is what gives u sound. The yellow gives u vidio. That way when u hook up ur dvd player, receiver & other stuff it will all have surround sound. Let me know if u need more help.

K, one more thing. If u have a blu-ray (HD) then u can go to radio shack, wal-mart or any store that carries tv stuff & they will have HDMI wires. These wires will help ur picture a bunch. U can go to Wal-mart & pay $29.99 for one set. Thats the cheapest i've seen them. I hope i'm helping u. :)

Ok...so right now the HD wires go from my DTV box to my TV.
Do I keep it that way or do I change it to the Receiver/Tuner/DVD player?
    • DIRECTV • 13867 answers • 94% helpful

Yes keep those wires the same. Then take a set of rca jacks using only the red & white & hook that to the tv out. Then

Keep in mind the the receiver with the surround sound has a dvd player.
Wouldn't I need to connect the yellow for video?
    • DIRECTV • 13867 answers • 94% helpful

Take the other side & hook to ur surrond sound. Using only the red & white. Now hook ur dvd player up to ur tv using a different input. U can use rca jacks to do this. U will use the red, white & yellow for ur dvd player. So if u have ur directv receiver on input 1, put ur dvd player on input 2. Now when u hook up ur surround sound to the tv out inputs u will get sound from what ever u r watching.

Yes im glad u told me that. I have the same kind. Mine is a vizio. Connect the yellow in that case.

The Surround Receiver is a tuner and a dvd player all in one. It is also
what the speakers for surround are hooked to!

K, so take the red & white hook to the out input of ur tv. Then take the other end of the red & white & hook to the back of the dvd player. Is ur dvd player a blu-ray?
    • DIRECTV • 13867 answers • 94% helpful

Ur dvd player should say audio in for the red & white.

Ok --- so now you have understanding of my whole system. Can I be a pain in the butt and ask you to spell it out step by step? Such as...

      1. Leave green/red and blue from DTV box out to TV in --- hooked up.
      2. Do I disconnect the red and white audio from the TV to the DTV box? Then go from here.

K, Now take the yellow part & hook it to the vidio out on ur dvd player. Then take the other yellow end & go to a input on ur tv.
    • DIRECTV • 13867 answers • 94% helpful

Lol, ur not being a pain. Yes leave the red, green & blue hooked up. Take the red and white & hook that to ur surround sound & the back of ur tv out

to get your help again! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

Once u hook up the red & white u will have surround sound. Now take another set of rca jacks & hook up ur dvd player only using the yellow wires. One goes behind the dvd player & the other gets attached to the back of ur tv input.

Instead of going from DirecTV receiver to TV, go to all-in-one then to TV. HDMI is best if that's an option, but component (red, white, yellow) will work fine.

So go from DTV receiver box to all in one using the green/red/blue hook-ups? Then to the TV using what hook ups? My DTV box and TV have HDMI hook ups but the all in one does not...it only has the HD (green/red/blue) hook ups!
    • DIRECTV • 3599 answers • 91% helpful

Okay, if the all in one has green/red/blue it must also have red/white/yellow. If you use red/blue/green, you will get no audio. These only carry HD video. You also need to use red and white (ignore yellow as that's non HD video) for sound. If you have to use composite (red, green, blue) that's fine. Still HD and TV should also have those as an input option. I really hope this helps as it can be hard when I can't see equipment used. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in DirecTV there are a ton of videos that help as well. Let me know if I can help further!!

use HDMI from the DirecTV receiver to your Home Theater/Surround sound system, and then HDMI from your Home Theater/Surround sound system to your TV. IF you do not have HDMI cables you cam purchase at Walmart, Best Buy, etc or call into technical support and we can order you one

If you have one of the nicer systems, you can simply use hdmi from your directv receiver to your audio/dvd system and from there out to your tv via hdmi

the best thing for older systems is to just connect the audio out from the tv to one of the inputs on the back of the audio device. with integrated DVD just connect the video out to your tv, you will have to have the surround sound on every time you watch a movie, hope that works.

sound lie you are in good hands with aireborne guy...
