Your box volume was turned all the way down.unplugging the box is a waste of time. Simply use the volume up button on the front of the box to turn the box volume up all the way. From here operate normally as you would.2 comments

I have spent 3 years contracted by Comcast to perform various levels of service to their subscribers....
Well Elaine first completely disconnect the box from the wall and tv, let sit for a couple minutes. Reconnect the box let it load back up and try the volume, if it still isn't working call 1-800-XFINITY. Tell them you have already tried disconnecting the box to reset it and you would like them to send a hit to your boxes. If that doesn't work the you would need to swap out your equipment at your local office.
