There is a no show factor on every flight and flights are oerbooked. sometimes all pax show up and those who had a ticket but no seats assigned are the ones that sometimes don't get on a light. You can still get a seat when soeone else volunteers to give up their seat for a travel certificate. always book your flight and a seat.

You can get a seat assignment up to 24 hours in advance, if available. When you arrive on the day of departure, seats are often blocked to be assigned by the gate agent. United sells a space in the cabin. Sometimes it is tricky to understand but there are a number of seats available prior to the flight open. when this seats are held, united keeps another number of seats blocked for the airport agents as well.. this happens because they need seats available at the time of the checkin to change confirm and or move passengers, disabled, mother with children, last minute infants and other situations... so dont get stressed. You can either keep looking into the united website... seat map changes all the time due to reservations helding seats as well not ticketed.. so it s almost like a game.
