I have worked in the wireless industry for almost 10 years, 5 of those years with Verizon Wireless. I know...

    Accepted answer

It depends on the type of phone you want. If you want a smartphone then you won't be able to do the $50 a month. $50 a month is the prepay plan for unlimited talk and text is for BASIC phones only. You are able to go onto the internet a little bit with them but it's pretty much not even worth it because of how slow it is. If you went with a contracted phone then your plan would be different. The monthly plan would be about $100 before taxes and it would only have 2GB of data. You would have unlimited talk and text AND data with that plan. >... there is also a "prepay" plan for smartphones that is $80 a month, gives you unlimited talk, text and only 1GB of data. So if you watch your data you could go with that one, however there are only specific smartphones that can be used on that plan.

there are advantages of doing the month to month plan. but at the end of the day you are the customer and you will know what works best for you financially and location.

I need to clarify what I said above about the contracted plan. It looks like I stated that you would have unlimited talk, text AND data with the contracted plan, that is not the case. For $100 a month you would have unlimited talk and text and only 2GB of data. Sorry for any confusion. Feel free to ask any other questions if you have any.

One other thing to bring to the attention of switching to Straight Talk. Keep in mind that company has not towers of it's own. People often thinks Straight talk is Verizon and it isn't at all. It often uses Verizon towers, but it really uses what ever towers is least expensive for the Trac company to run on in the area you are in. Sometimes you will get the good, reliable service that you come to expect with Verizon, sometimes you won't. Other thing is that if your phone is having issues, you often will not be connected to straight talk customer service; rather your call will route to a customer service agent on the network you are actually connected to. If an issue is happening that can't be corrected with some troubleshooting, they would need to file a trouble ticket with the company that the service is connected to and if that service outage is not affecting any of its own customers, that company may take its time to correct the issue. Last but not least, one reason why Straight talk is so inexpensive is because its customer service is not based in the US. Yes they can speak English, but do they really understand the American Dialect? Thankfully, Verizon does not have any call centers in any other countries so even though you may hear an accent from our reps, I can tell you that all of our customer service representatives are based here in the US. Sorry, but as the old adage goes, "you get what you pay for" well that is true about sticking with Verizon.

Other things to consider. If you are 1 minute late paying for your straight talk billing (or any other prepaid service for that matter) your service is instantly cut. With Verizon, you can be as late as 12 days late without any service interruptions (and often you can get an extension if needed). You would have a late fee if your bill is paid on your Billing cycle date or later, but hey things can always happen to cause a shortage of fund unexpectedly ... at least you can still make sure to have your communication to the outside world when things do happen

I have worked in wireless for going on 9 years! There is not much I can't help you with!

honest answer would be you're going to get much better service on your calls call quality data speeds if you stick with Verizon on the 2 year Walmart uses Verizon's network but only there prepaid network for the 50 dollar 1 to stick it out with the 2 years your call body will definitely be worth it
