Purchased tickets today using airline miles at united for a flight from chicago to LA. The online system booked the tickets and charged the usual fees and asked me for seat preperences which I took in the E-Plus section and paid extra for those. I confirmed my purchase and boom the system confirmed I had tickets but would not let me have the selected seats. The message was that I would have to wait until checkin in May of 2013 to get my seats. Whats up with this? I have never purchased tickets with out seat assignments since I have been flying united for the past 20 years. Thanks for shedding some light on this puzzle and maybe directing me as to the solution of getting seats assigned. PS not even the telephone rep was of help, their responce was basically that they could not help me. Go figure.

    If the system charged you for the economy plus seats you should have them confirmed.

    Are a Mileage Plus member. 1k, global services or gold status. If yes, you can reach a dedicated agent to help you. The help ddesk number is in the back of you frequent flyer card.

    Please let me know if you need any assistance with the numbers. Do you have a record locator...Is your flight for MAY 2013 ... If yes .. Im wondering if the system is not able to confirm seats with such a window. Seat changes and aircraft configurations changes all the times.

    What happened was, poof they were gone! When using free miles, you can only make a request. You are confirmed for a seat in that section, however many are blocked out until the day of departure. You will have to get assigned at check-in to one of those premium seats. No worries, you will be boarded (save for a cancellation) and will get there for a lot less money. Unfortunately, the reality of air travel nowadays. Highest revenue is taken care of first. Sorry to disappoint you!
