Mary, if it was a non-refundable ticket, it does not allow changes without penalty. You will have to pay a a change fee ($150. +) plus the cost of a new ticket. It could render your ticket worthless.

Go to United.com, type in your confirmation number under View/Change Reservation and see what happens. Or, you can call 1800UNITED1 and ask for an estimate. In the future, you can purchase travel insurance from Orbitz for unexpected circumstances.

Reservations, web, customer service, I am your wonder woman! I understand that some united policies are not...

    Mary,
There is a charge of $25 plus the change fee of $150 to change a ticket bought from a source other than United.com (such aas otbitz) plus any difference in fare (for current fare ticket). This would be what you might have to pay to make a change to your ticket. You probably have a good fare but changing might be too expensive.

If you have a medical or disaster type reason you could luck out by getting a refund of the change penalty less a $50 processing fee. And if you call our web support folks at 1 800 300 1547 they might be able to minimize your difference in fare if you have some flexibility.

Hope this might help. Happy flying!!!

I have been employed with United Airlines, American, and Delta for last 30 years, currently with Independent...

United can change for you but you should be going back to booking source Orbitz, because besides the change fee, and any difference in airfare, we would charge a additional fee of $25 since the original ticket was not purchased through our channels
