My 16 year old is a seasoned traveller and she wants to fly to France on United.

My 16 year old is a seasoned traveller and she wants to fly to France on United. I understand the unaccompanied minor rules for United, but the flight I am looking at involves transfers to partner carriers like Lufthansa in Germany. Do I need to verify the rules of these airlines as well - or can I assume that if I book the flight through united that the United guidelines apply to all partners, ie that a 16 year old can travel alone?

Reservations, web, customer service, I am your wonder woman! I understand that some united policies are not...

Lufthansa is a German carrier. German kids can drink at 15 legally, I can't imagine that they would not allow an international flight by a 16 year old!

Not to make light of your youngster, I lived in Germany for 7 years. All of my children traveled to the USA without a problem. My middle daughter was 16 and went to Texas to take driver's educ while living with her college age sister. All my kids are very experienced travelers and have never encounter trouble as long as they had their documents (passport) and confidence.

It looks like your 16 y/o "child" will be treated more like a adult.

You are all making deductions based on irrelevant criteria.
Every airline has its own rules regarding minors travelling. Make sure you check each airline before you make your plans.
If you call United Reservation, they will look all that up for you.

Even though 16 is a minor, if she is a seasoned traveler, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as all her documentation is in order, she doesn't need unaccompaned minor escort service to transfer. At 16, I went to Europe and traveled alone from North Africa to the Arctic Circle. And that was before cell phones and ATM's. If she has street smarts, she will be fine!
