the Kindle is white and was mounted in a black leather case
When turned on, the welcome screen should say "Welcome William's Kindle"
Among the several books that will show up in the home or menu screen will be
"The complete works of Sherlock Holmes"; "North to the Night" "Killing Lincoln" etc

Bill, you have filed a report and that is first and foremost. I would suggest returning to SFO lost and found in baggage claim and check again. They may not find it until they do a complete inventory. It is possible (although unlikely) that the Kindle was missed for some reason and it continued on to another destination, in which case you may not know where it is for some time.

Also, continue to check back with Customer Service and see if there has been an update.

I'll try to make it easy.

The lost article report that you filed is the best first step. After three days the airport that found the article will have it sent to our lost and found department in Houston. They will go trough the items and file them according to the airports that they were received from and from your details try to see if there is a match. If there is they will contact you and arrange for the item to be returned to you. Customer Service has nothing to do with the lost items so calling most likely will not get you any further information. Unfortunately items are left on the plane frequently and hopefully people are honest enough to turn them in and other passengers as well. Good luck, they will contact you only if the item is found.
