I have Sprint service and my plan has unlimited data.

I have Sprint service and my plan has unlimited data. I was told because I use so much data time (Google Facebook, etc.) I was being charged 10.00 extra per line. How is this when my contract states UNLIMITED DATA

Multiple years experience working for cell carriers - know everything about plans, devices, customer service,...

Your data plan IS truly unlimited. The $10 charge is for your smartphone - they cost an extra $10 a month on top of your calling plan. Basic phones are not subject to this charge. The reason being, Sprint was looking at the possibility of going to a capped data system but instead decided to charge the extra $10 and use it towards upgrading the cell sites to still be able to support unlimited use. Other than your calling plan plus the $10 charge, you will never be charged any extra fees for internet use, no matter how much you use.

If this is the case, when did it start and why is service with Sprint worse than ever? In order to get my texts I have to turn phone off and back on. When I make calls it is not calling the contact I am trying to call. It calls totally random people. When I dial a # it is dead silence. People try to call me and my phone does not even ring.... so how is this better again?

The $10 was initially only charged on the Evo 4G and Epic 4G. At the end of January 2011 was when it was expanded to all smartphones. If you're having phone issues, a Sprint service and repair store is the best place to get it checked out and fixed.

You have a problem? I have a solution!

the ten buck charge is normaly for 4G service. it turned into a smart phoen charge. personally it is a rip off if you live in an area with no 4G. thats just wasting money. plus i feel it is wrong to charge an extra charge for a smartphone just because. but your not the only one with that charge everyone has it. free money for sprint. :/

Look at my name, it's all you need to know

Hey thanks quick solution for throwing your company under the bus. Go ahead and checkout Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile data plans and see how they stack up. T-Mobile and AT&Twill throtle you down to 2G speeds after about 2 GB of usage. Have fun with that. The $10 reflects the extra costs associated with any smartphones that automatically use data ALL the TIME so you can get your Visual Voicemail, Twitter and Facebook updates, email, weather and sports scores on the fly, etc, etc, etc. And by the way our contract does not say anything about unlimited data, your rate plan does and that is different than your contract and subject to change (that part IS in your contract)
