You are able to fill out an online form regarding a lost piece of luggage. You will need to goto www.southwest.com. Once on the web page scroll down to the bottom of the page and under customer service click on where it says baggage policy.
Once there click on where it states lost and found and then you will see where it states quick information and you will then click on where it states lost item report.
Once you click on lost item report it will ask if it was a checked or unchecked item. If its was a checked piece of luggage you will need to goto a southwest ticket counter or the southwest baggage claim office which is located at the baggage terminal to fill out a report. But you are also able to goto the southwest ticket counter and speak with an agent and they can make a report for you.
If it was an unchecked item, then click on unchecked and you are able to fill out the form, just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on file report. This report is used if the item was left on the plane. Once you fill out the form online, you will recieve an email stating the recieved your claim.
When an item is left on the plane and if it is found or turned in, the item stays at the airport for 24 hours. After the 24 hour period the lost or found item is sent to our corporate office where we have a team that receives your form and will start to locate the item. if the item was turned in and is found by our agents at the corporate office, you will be notified and arrangements will be made to have the item fedexed back to you.
Please when filling out the report be as detailed as possible. It will make the identification process of your item go faster and smoothly so your item can be returned to you as soon as possible.
Once the form is filled out, the only people that will have information about your item will be the luggage department. No one at the airport or the customer service line will be able to assist you with your claim. Be rest assured that if the item is found and or turned in you will receive a call from southwest letting you know that we found your item. So please give as much contact information that you can.

The lost item report is available at Southwest.com under baggage policies. Unfortunately, most smaller less valuable items may not get back to their owners due to the volume and similarity in items. However, if it is a high value item, such as an Ipad, laptop, etc. you will need the Serial number of that item for it to be returned. Good luck.
