I have an external hard drive on my Dish 722 receiver.

I have an external hard drive on my Dish 722 receiver. I inadvertently unplugged the external hard drive. When I plugged it back in, the receiver would not recognize it. It said it needed to be reformated in order to be used. Question: Is there any way to get the movies back I lost? or are they gone forever?

Everytime you plug a hard drive into the 722 it has to reformat the drive before you can put any new movies on it. This sucks cause you need 4 or 5 hard drives to store 100s of movies. But you can call in for a free upgrade and get the Hopper it has 2TB hard drive, you wont ever fill that up. call 1800-333-3474 and upgrade today for free. you can thank me later.

I know the system better than the system!

Reformatting should not be required simply by plugging and unplugging the drive, that is simply not the way the system works. What might have happened is if you unplugged it while it was in the middle of a write operation it could have corrupted the file. The same thing can happen when using a hard drive with a computer. If a hard reset does not work then it sounds as if the drive has become corrupted. However under normal operation you can have several drives that you unplug and replug on a regular basis without having to reformat. You can also use the EHD to move recordings from one DVR to another on the same account (in the event that you upgrade or replace the DVR).
