I have a new vip 722, but only one TV.

I have a new vip 722, but only one TV. Do I need to have two sat inputs coming in the back to use PIP?

Yes, you will need both satellite inputs connected. If you do not have a Dish Separator, you will need to call Dish at 18003333474 and either order a separator (about $5, maybe free) or have a tech come out and connect it for you.

Just so I understand. I have one cable coming in from the sat dish. I have to add the separator just before it goes into the back of the receiver, and run two cables into the back of the receiver into Sat 1 and Sat 1, correct? Will this solve my recording problem as well? The light goes on that it's recording, but then doesn't show up in My Recordings. My PIP only shows "acquiring satellite." Will that separator solve all these problems, or is there something else I need to do?

You're spot on! It should solve the recording problem as well, since it is trying to record from a tuner that is not connected. Let me know if I can help further!

there is one thing you need to make sure of if using a separator, your LNB (on the dish must say DPplus. this is the techknology that makes a separator work.
if it is not DPplus you will need two separate cables, or change the LNB

Perfect! Thanks for that last bit tivosat, I've confirmed we have the DPplus dish, but for some reason we didn't get the separator at the same time we got the receiver. We'll pick one up today and see if that resolves the problem.
Thanks so much to all of you that helped us try to resolve the problem. I'll post again when we've confirmed the solution. Thanks!!!

no doubt it will work, after you install it, you will need to do a check switch. then you are in buisiness

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm in single mode, but in PIP I only get "acquiring satellite." Further, I can't find programming that I've designated to record. On my program guide, when I hit record, sometimes it seems to mark it DVR1 and other times DVR2, and I can't figure out why, or how to change it, and sometimes the recording appears in My Recordings and sometimes it doesn't, it just seems to disappear. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... Going through HDMI...

JJ I will answer all these question, I'll do them 1 at a time. :). 1). Call dish & have them come out & do a service call, ur DVR is going bad or ur satellite needs to be re-adjusted. 2).
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan

2). I will show u a way to choose which tv records. A). Press ur menu button on ur dish remote. B). Select the number #8. C). Select the number #5. From there u can choose the tv u want it to record.
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan

JJ getting back to ur DVR. It has a hard drive & it sounds like its doing out. So when u call they will send a tech out to repair this. Please let me know if u need more help. I'm here till ur good.

      Thanks again for your help.
      1. Everything is brand new, so if it's going bad, it came that way.
      2. I've already tried preferences, but for some reason, it won't let me change anything The only buttons not grayed out are Cancel, ERD and Help. My understanding is that in single mode, I don't have access to Record Plus. Haven't tried going to dual mode to fix, that may come next, just thought if I'm in single mode, I should stay in single mode.
      3. See answer 1.
I was hoping to avoid a service call, since I still think it's just something in the way we've set it up (without a service professional) that is wrong. Just can't seem to figure out what it is, but we've only had experience with single tuners. But we've had a lot experience with single tuners. Would have preferred another single tuner, but no one locally seems to stock them, so we accepted the vip 722 instead. Probably something really simple, just can't find it yet.

It right it might be, put in dual mode & try those steps I put b4. Also what channel do u have tv 2 on & what channel do u have tv1 on? Let me know that & that might help me.
    • JJ

Okay, so I switched to Dual mode and changed the preferences, which it let me do, but then when I asked it to record something, it automatically showed the TV2 box again, even after I switched back to TV1. I don't know what you mean by what channel I have TV2 on. I only have one TV, straight from the receiver to the nearby TV through HDMI. That's why I though I needed both sat inputs from the dish. Where does the PIP pick up it's picture from, if not a second dish input?
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan

It picks up PIP from the receiver it self. It's all controlled from that 722. I forgot u said u had only 1 tv hooked up. I just wanted to make sure u were on the correct channel/input. Also try this, unplug ur receiver for 1 minute then plug it back in. This will reset ur receiver. This is a must when u don't have a phone line hooked up or Internet to ur receiver. Also
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan

JJ once u pick ur preference in recording it will try ur 1st choice & if u have a future recording coming on it will automatically go to the 2nd choice. I hope this helps u & if not feel, please let me know. I will stay till ur done or ur good to go.
    • JJ

One last question before I hang it up for the night (past my bedtime!) If PIP is supposed to come off the receiver, why am I getting "acquiring satellite" when I go to PIP, when I have an excellent signal on the main channel?
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan

On the back of ur receiver u have 2 inputs for the satellite. 1 for the antenna & 1 for the 2nd tv. Do u have a Tri-plexer that has all the ports hooked up. That means u have 2 wires coming from the satellite inputs & 1 wire coming from tv2 hookup to a device that looks like a splitter. It will say Tri-plexer on it. Let me know if that is hooked up.
    • SuperAIRBORNEMan
