Accepted answerYour apt complex cannot (By law) restrict you from putting up a dish on your personal space. Balconies and patios that are for your use only (not public access) can be used by you to place a dish. BUT, if the apt faces a direction that you cannot get clear line of sight to the satellites, you can get out of the contract. Call Dish and have them do a free "Dish Mover" and when the tech comes out he will determine if you have line of sight or not. I have only ran into one instance where I could not find a legal place to put a dish that had an apt facing the right way. I even put one inside an unused bedroom once and pointed the dish out the window. Basically, if you want to keep Dish, odds are you can, AS LONG AS YOU FACE THE RIGHT DIRECTION.. Hint.,..hint.

I've been a tech for Dish Network for 12 years & Directv for 3 years. I also was a Paratrooper (509th)...
Sorry too here that. Once u sign the contract with Dish u r responsible for the 2 years. They will not let u out of it. They will put on ur credit if u don't pay the buy-out and the will also make u pay the UPS charge. I know this is not want u want too here, but that's a fact. I've been a tech with Dish for 11 years and they haven't changed on that issue. Once again sorry. Hope this is helpful.

unfortunately you were wrong on this issue. I got out of it exactly like molon lobe said. I dont have a patio and even if I did they could only put it on the patio with a bucket which Dish refuses to do because they got too many service calls just because someone knocked it out of linement with the sattelites. anyway since I didnt have a personal balcony nor were they allowed to put it anywhere on the building or in the landscaping Dish was forced to let me out of the contract -

I mean Fortunately not UNfortunately. I am in no way dissapointed with Dish network I would have preferred dish network but unfortunately My hands were tied and I had to use the cable company my apartment has a contract with. regardless if I had Dish Network or Direct TV or whatever. -

Im just a tech, I'm very good at technical question, I was just trying to help. Sorry I was wrong. Hope to help u in the future. Thank u for being a cust.

by federal law your apartment complex can restrict you from putting a dish on the building but not from putting on the balcony/patio you are paying for. we have ways of putting it up that won't create holes in the building. however if you don't have a balcony or patio or are unable to get signal from your current balcony/patio you can call 1-800-333-3474 and ask to speak to the loyalty team. they have let many of my customers out of their contract for that very reason. good luck to you.

Ok since you moved to a new apartment and landlord has restrictions about dish you can actually get out of the contract with out paying the cancellation fee just call dish at 18003333474 and request to be transfer to our loyalty dept. let them know that the reason why you have to cancel the account is because the building you moved to has an exclusive contract with a cable provider and wont allow you to install a dish on the building. They should be able to cancel your contract with out a penalty fee but you will be charged for the ups boxes to return the equipment. Hopefully this helps.

the landlord cant tell you cant have Dish but they can restrict where you can put the dish like attaching the dish to the building or outside your patio/balcony.
you can put the dish in your patio/balcony as long as its facing South/southeast and clear of any trees.
if you did a dishmover and we cant get it installed for you due to landlord restrictions, we can call it in at the time of the appointment and have customer service cancel your service w/ no early termination fees. -
This is easy, Just set up a movers for your new home and when the tech comes to install the service give hime the appartment rules and once the tech realizes he cant complete the intall he will be foreced to canncel the service with dish getting you out of the contract and dish will then be forced to mail you a pre addressed box to send back the reciver. I do this all the time with apartments in my area that cant get line of sight or cant install due to apartment rules.. call 1800-333-3474 to set up your movers and get this problem fixed today. good luck

Of all of the answers on this matter, Molon Labe's is the best. Your best bet is having a Mover's set and hoping for a no line of sight. I see a lot of these situations (working in the escalations department) and while we understand that the apartment will not allow for you to have the services on their property you can still work around it. Example: They don't want it installed on the building. Have a tripod set up on your balcony. There are ways to work around the issue if there is a valid line of sight. If you do not have a line of sight, then call and request to cancel due to this matter but you will need to insure that the tech has notated your account with the NLOS.
Further more, exceptions can be made! Dish is moving towards being more 'for the customer' if you speak with the right agent. Explain in detail what you have here and you may be surprised by the compassion that you may be shown. Good Luck!
