I connected a NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter to my DirectTV HD DVR.
I connected a NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter to my DirectTV HD DVR. The adapter has all 3 lights green (power, LAN ethernet connection, and WLAN Wireless). The DVR however does not seem to be recognizing the internet connection.
I have gone through settings>network setup>get connected several times. I keep getting result code 86-787.
The back of the DVR, the ethernet port has an orange solid light on the right and a flashing yellow light on the left.
Any ideas what I can do?

I currently work as a CSR for Directv. I was an installer for over 8 years for Directv and dish network. If...
Accepted answerI use the same device and have found that occasionally it will lock on wrong signal. Try resetting the netgear device and then plug it into the hddvr and reset the hddvr by unplugging it then plugging it back in that usually clears my problems. FYI it will not work if you have Whole home setup.

Richard, I don't appreciate the bad mark. If you're irritated with DirecTV (and you should be) complain to them. I answered your question completely and honestly. You cannot possible blame me for their incompetence. You've now brought my percentage down because you're not happy.

Oh, and I did respond further before but it didn't go through. I know what you're going through. I first tried your method (since it's an option in setup). I spent over an hour with it until finding out on the website that wireless is not possible. Again, a DirecTV screwup, not mine!!! -

You must still connect using an Ethernet cable - currently only the NEW Genie (HR44 will have a built in wireless adapter. The wireless set-up in the receiver is for connecting a wireless CCK (Cinema Connection Kit, sold via on-line or through a rep). Sorry for any confusion. -

I gave you an unhelpful review because it wasn't helpful, it was short and ambiguous, and it was incorrect.
Though true DirectTV isn't able to detect or connect to a wireless signal, that wasn't what I was asking.
You see, it isn't just my HDDVR and my Router. There is an Adapter there in the middle. The wireless adapter acts as a bridge between the DVR and the router.
I felt like you didn't read what I had actually wrote. And was a little irked by it.
The DVR is now connected. So no, it doesn't have to be hardwired. -

I wish I never bothered! I've never been accused of being ambiguous or irking customers. No idea how I'm ranked in the top five all time here. Now who's irked?
