On way to son's college graduation in New Haven, Ct.our flight to westchester, N.Y. on Delta was cancelled 4 hours after planned departure and we were rerouted to a flight the next morning to LaGuardia and missed most of the graduation. We incurred the cost of hotel room in New Haven as they are nonrefundable in most college towns during graduation. Also cost us about $300 extra in car rental due to last minute reservation in new town. Sent a courteous detailed letter to Delta customer care on their website, they have declined reimbursement. Any compensation will depend entirely on why the flight was delayed and then cancelled. If it was weather it is considered an Act of God and as we have no control of that we will not cover any expenses. If it was crew or mechanical, send a physical letter to the Corporate Customer Care department and ask explain the situation to them.
