Also, they have different phone lines. One is "priority", the "higher priority", then "highest priority", then "VIP line." What is the difference?

You do actually have to fly to earn medallion status. You can get an American Express and earn miles, but those miles do not count towards medallion status. If you want detailed information about the SkyMedallion Medallion program just type in "Medallion qualifications" on delta.com.
The difference in the phone lines is that agents are trained to handle more areas the higher up they go. They hold times are also lower. The reason for this is many of the highest levels of medallions spend over $100,000 a year in tickets. This is one the of benefits we offer them in appreciation for their business.
