How long is Bank of America going to hold my moms check?

How long is Bank of America going to hold my moms check? My mom got a certified check for $23,000 from her stocks account and they put a hold on it. How long will it take to go into her saving. Is Bank of America going to take a long time releasing the funds?

You must realize that it is large sum of money and the bank has to confirm that it clears. You will get money after 5 to 10 business days.

It is certified check, it shouldn't take long time, however it depend on the average balance, account holder used to keep in that account, where check is submitted.

As it is a certified check, the first $5,000 is going to be available the next business day. The rest of the check is subject to regular clearing time. Have your mom check the receipt she was given when she made the deposit, it will tell her when the rest of the funds will clear into her savings account. If she didn't save her receipt, she can check her online banking, call 1-800-432-1000 or visit the nearest banking center to find out when the funds will clear.

Are you certain this was a certified or cashier's check? It would have said so on the face of the check. If it was, then you are guaranteed to have $5000 made available on the next business day (this would be Tuesday if the deposit was made on Saturday). How did she make the deposit, at the teller or at the ATM? If she made it at the teller, the notice of hold would be a second, larger receipt. If it was made at the ATM, the notice of hold would be at the bottom of the receipt.
If she doesn't have the larger receipt that details out when the check will clear, I would have her get in touch with customer service because they can tell her the exact date and time the money will be available. No need to wonder when you can know for sure! 1-800-432-1000
