Early upgrade overide???

I'm due for an upgrade on 6/2/12. I've been a loyal customer for years, and want to upgrade to iPhone 4s early. Is this possible? I've gotten different answers from different reps.

Worked for Corporately own at&t stores for 3 years, now working for authorized retailer since november...

If you truly want a 4S, don't use the word WANT with at&t. Tell them you NEED to and make up some reason why you need a 4S. You are within 4-6 months of the iPhone 5. A little patience would pay off big time.

But if you have to have it now and have no patience, yes, given that you've been a customer for 5-10 years, are great about paying your bill on time and aren't a customer that requests credits every other bill cycle, they could override it. In a corporately owned store - usually only 30 days before your actual upgrade date. At a privately owned franchise store - roll of the dice but usually 30 days, if you're lucky. Over the phone, yes. You'll have to process it over the phone and wait on shipping butit could be arranged over the phone. I've see not done before. Its not unheard of.

I've been in contact with reps on the phone twice before about it-- one gave me your answer, the other said that legally they can't do any upgrade early on iPhone. Do you know if they keep logs of these conversations? Will that affect my chances of calling in a few days (when I'll be within 30 days of my upgrade) and talking them into an overide?

Thank you so much for your help.

2 things - Thing 1 - the terms you say mean different things for att, exception upgrade being $450 for a 4S, early being "I'm not eligible yet, let's do it now for $200 please. Thing 2 - you would think this kind of communication would be made to all employees before they put them on the phone with customers but that's not always the case, resulting in different stories.

They usually record phone calls if a severe circumstance has caused some sort of mess for you or att, or if an in store rep is calling on your behalf. If anything they may note your account to keep track of what has been discussed. How thorough those notes are depends on the rep you spoke with. Some notes are riddled with bad grammar and spelling. You've still got a decent shot if you call back soon and try again. IPhone upgrades and new activations have slowed lately because of the anticipation of a new iPhone. So I'm sure they're always up for getting an iPhone out of the door. Its been att's bread and butter. Just don't ask for the minimal $20 data plan. Your phone will burn thru 300 mb in the background and they won't work with you at all if that's the data plan you want

Hmm. Good to know. I've done all of my dealings with ATT over the phone. I guess I'll try to haggle with them again later this week, when I'll be within thirty days of my upgrade. I doubt it would be worth my while to threaten to drop ATT, huh?

Maybe I'll reason with them-- I'm NOT paying the extra $250 on top of the $199, so would they like they $199 now or in a month? haha.

      Thanks for your help.

I have been a Manager with a third party ATT group for 5+ years. I have seen several situations, and have...

Yes an override does exist, much better to do through a corporate store as you will wait if calling in and doing it through a rep. We have something called "customer rules" you might even say you know of someone else who got this done with no issues...
