Means they will throttle you back, meaning they will slow you down if you are on a unlimited plan. If yoh don't have unlimited then they will charge you extra for each kilobyte you use over your Plan.

Cablegirlee's MOTTO "never say NO to INFO" Follow me for $$ accurate...

only if you have unlimited plan and exceed 3G will you be throttled back. There is no extra charge for exceeding 3G just the speed that info will be available to you after you exceed. (there is nothing that says unlimited data plans should not take advantage of any wifi signal if appropriate. If you have a LIMITED plan up to 3G as soon as you receive a text that states "you are nearing your limit of data for cycle and if exceeded you will be charged an additional 10.00 which would give access to another 1G and so on until cycle ends. same applies for the 200-300M plans who are at a greater risk for extra charges due to it being an additional $15-$20 respectively AND will continue for segment over will be another $15-20. This only buys a refresh of your plan of 200-300 but if you go over that say 4 times or do approx 1.2G over the charge to your bill will be 4 sets of $15-$20. could get quite costly for the lower (i dont use that much data) people. If you have the larger plan for 30 your propensity to exceed first of all is all but eliminated but if you did you are only charged another $10 which buys you 1000M...

If you are rarely over your plan and never use data out and about then the lower plans will suffice, however should you wish to enjoy the ability of the smart phone and to gain the exposure to all they can do, you should start with the higher of the data plans due to (phone being new and you wanting to play to get how it works). If you never want to have an extra charge then once the second nag it sent as a text to you, go to the settings and turn OFF the cellular network and you will only be able to connect to a wifi which you can internet without any charges. the specific setting steps for your's or anyones phone is available at att.com/support and then indicate your specific model. :p

I've worked for multiple Telecommunication companies and i have over 15 years of experience!

Example if you have limited data say 3Gbif you go over 3 Gb they will throttle you slow up your data stream . The fact your over the 3gb as example that's a data overage. .
