Hello Paul! American Airlines only requires your first and last name. However, as you know, the TSA requires a middle name and Date of birth. American puts that in a different part of the reservation for them to see. Domestically, you only need to have what is on your Gov. issued ID, which is usually your Driver' License, State issued ID, etc. You can call the AAdvantage Desk at 1-800-882-8880 to confirm that your reservation is correctly documented.
