That sounds like the screen saver, but it's only 'supposed' to come on when paused for a while. Sound would continue. It might be an issue with the box. If your DirecTV box is HD, then best hookup is HDMI cable. If it's only standard then use red, white, yellow. When hooked up, TV input might need to be changed to get picture. Please let me know if you need any more advice. Read entire answer
